ACES Abu Dhabi is completing the works for the Survey of Zirku Bridges/Culverts, Buildings and Road Network, Study No. ZR/S/827 on Zirku Island for RW Armstrong. The project is jointly executed by ACES Abu Dhabi materials and survey departments. It includes visual Inspection and delamination survey for 24 Bridges, 30 Culverts and 126 Buildings in addition to concrete destructive testing for one of the bridges. Furthermore coring works and trial pits excavation with related soil testing are performed for the assessment of some asphalt roads within the island, as well as, topographical survey is carried out for bridges and culverts.

With unshaken commitment to quality and excellent customer and employee’s satisfaction, ACES Top Management made a quick visit to a project at Wadi Dayqah Dam, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman where ACES Muscat is conducting deep boring and high quality water pressure using wireline packer assembly and automated system testing for the important project to asses grouting requirements of the dam foundation. The work includes also installing of deep Casagrande type piezometers for GW monitoring. Dr. Izz Eddin Kathkuda, the Director and Partner of ACES, and Eng. Emad Sharif, the Manager of ACES Muscat & Dubai appreciated the performance of ACES Staff and met with the Contractor representative from M/s. Zublin. Geotechnical Engineers at ACES have always hoped to have accurate in-situ measurements of soil modulus of deformation, which is considered as the most important soil parameter. ACES Dubai is pleased to announce that MDT test is now available to be used for direct measurement of in‐situ Ed. Further, the MDT can also measure and assess the effects of stress history (normally vs over‐consolidated soil) and in‐situ lateral pressure coefficient Ko. In‐situ measurement of shear wave velocity is another important advantage of SMDT. Applications of SMDT include: Foundation settlement, liquefaction (Vs or Kd‐based), slope stability, etc.. The test is recognized and Standardized by: ASTM D6635 (2007), Eurocode 7, Part 2 (2007), and ISSMGE ‐ TC16 ‐ Report (2001). Much more information is available about the merits of this new method.
