ACES is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ibrahim Asi as General Manager for ACES Jordan starting the 1ST of January 2014. Dr. Asi has served ACES since 2010 as manager of ACES Regional excellence Center for Pavement Studies & Evaluation. He has obtained his B.Sc. in Civil Engineering in 1983, M.Sc. in 1986 and Ph.D. in Transportation, Pavement Material option, from King Fahd University of petroleum & Minerals, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, in 1996. He worked for nine years as an assistant and associate professor in the civil engineering department at Hashemite University in Zarqa, Jordan and five years as an assistant professor at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. He also taught over twenty short courses, completed fifteen funded research projects, authored over 100 journal and conference papers that appeared in leading international periodicals and conference proceedings.

ACES Dubai is pleased to announce the successful execution of the first bidirectional test in Oman. The project name is Bid - Sur road, the Piling contractor is Geomar, the main contractor is Astaldi -Uzkar, the consulatnt is Dar AI-Handasah and the client is the Ministry of Transportation - Oman. Test Load: • 22500 Km • Diameter: 120 cm • Length: 20 cm. The field operations were directly followed (day and night) by Eng. Santhosh Paul, Pile Testing and Instrumentation RCE Manager, and his team. ACES would like to congratulate them for this significant challenge and success, which adds to ACES scope a new and a very important test. ACES Dubai has at present several confirmed jobs in Dubai and several other on-going quotations for bidirectional tests which are quickly becoming replacements to conventional testing procedures.

ACES Jordan completed the site investigation for the Aqaba LNG and LPG project in September 2013 to be constructed on the southern shore of Aqaba, Jordan. A total of thirty (30) boreholes were drilled at the project site where fourteen (14) of these boreholes were drilled onshore and the remaining sixteen (16) boreholes were drilled offshore. The investigated depths ranged from 15 to 30m below the existing ground surface for the onshore boreholes and from 25m to 40m below the seabed for the offshore boreholes. The offshore drilling was executed using two Jack-up Pontoons for different water depths up to 20m.  The investigation also included geophysical field investigation and laboratory testing among others.

ACES Doha recently started work in a new port project in Doha, Qatar with Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. LTD, The scope of work covers physical and chemical testing of soil, concrete and asphalt. ACES Doha also recently started providing new services for testing of Betonite samples as will as testing by Gas Chromatography to expand the testing facilities for chemical analysis of sewage water, drinking water, soil chemical, among others.

ACES held its 9TH Annual Conference on December 10-12, 2013 at Al Bustan Palace Hotel in Muscat, Oman under the theme “ Reviving ACES”. The attendees included the Partners & Directors of ACES, Dr. Izz Eddin Katkhuda & Dr. Omar Abdulhadi, the Regional Manager for KSA, Jordan and Yemen, Dr. Amjad Barghouthi, and 10 managers from the corporate headquarters and regional offices. The conference was a great success by every measure, including highly informative presentations by the attendees, visit to ACES Muscat in Muscat, Oman, city tour and entertainment.
