ACES Dubai Wins Geotechnical Investigation for Al Maktoum International Airport

ACES Dubai was recently awarded the geotechnical investigation Package 6 for Al Maktoum International Airport, in Dubai, UAE. The investigation scope was awarded by the consultant Dar Al Handasa and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2017.

The current soil investigation works are carried out for the expansion of the existing airport facilities in view of the forthcoming EXPO2020. The development comprises construction of an additional terminal building, concourses and runways, and other ancillary structures.

The scope of work includes drilling of 600 boreholes to depths ranging from 15 to 50 meters, with a total linear meter of more than 12,000. In addition, the scope includes excavation of 28 trial pits, and performing field work such as falling head permeability, packer permeability tests and installation of piezometers.

The field works were commenced on December 2016 utilizing more than ten of ACES rotary drilling rigs.
