ACES Doha Conducts Seismic Hazard Analysis for QP Complex Site at Lusail
ACES Doha has recently conducted a seismic hazard analysis for the Qatar Petroleum Complex Site at Lusail. The scope of work included: investigating the siesmicity of the site, including the response spectrum of the site including variations with elevation as appropriate, indicating the appropriate earthquake design levels, earthquake effects on foundation systems, earth screening bunds recommended for all portions of the work and existing/known or probable faulting or gross rock movements in the general region and the site in particular, and including discussions of available recorded earthquake data and observations.
“This is a rare type of study carried out in Qatar,” says Eng. Abdulrahim Sukik, manager of ACES-Doha. “ The aim was to compute the ground motion hazard and provide IBC seismic parameters for the proposed designed structure. The results were based on 5% damped response spectra for the Qatar Petroleum Complex Project Site. This spectrum corresponds to ground motion with a 2% probability of being ceded in 50 years exposure time. The IBC 2006 which refers to the ASCE 7-05 standard is used to calculate the seismic design acceleration parameters SDS and SD1.”
This project is considered the most prestigious project in Qatar in terms of number of residential and commercial buildings of low and high rise nature and structures.
